Host to the German MotoGP, Sachsenring is located in Hohenstein-Ernstthal in Saxony, Germany. The first race was held on local public roads in May 1927 when it was known as the Badberg-Viereck race; it wasn't until 1937 the name Sachsenring was awarded. The track has a varied and complex history. The racing course that used existing roads ended in 1990. The 'new' circuit was created in 1996 following a rebuild that, although still contains parts of the old course, has been expanded and no longer affects the public transport system. The current Grand Prix Circuit is 2.281 miles long.
