Track Facts

Located south of Seneca Lake, New York, Watkins Glen International is a racing track that has played host to a large range of road racing series such as NASCAR, IndyCar, Trans-Am and Can-Am - to name a few! It was host and home to the United States Formula One Grand Prix for 20 consecutive years between 1961 and 1980.

A permanent circuit was built in 1956; the village public roads having previously been used for the race course.

There are two main circuits at Watkins. Both of these modern layouts use the 1992 'Inner Loop' modification (implemented to try and reduce the number of serious crashes at what is now known as the 'Outer Loop').

The Long Course (or 'Grand Prix Course' because of it's close association with F1) fundamentally came about in 1972 when the "Boot" section was finished, extending the Short Course in time for the Formula One race that year.

The Long Course is an 11-turn, 3.40 mi long circuit while the Short Course is is 2.454 mi long and has 8 turns.
